While spring is approaching in the northern hemisphere, the summer is turning to fall in Chile. This means it is time for the wine festivals in the vineyards surrounding Santiago. On this occasion, the Chileans celebrate their exclusive vineyards in festivals dedicated to wine.

Chile is the world’s fifth largest wine exporter. Wine has a long history in Chile since it was brought over by the Spanish in the 16th century. One of the typical Chilean wines is the "Carménère" since there is no other region of the world where this grape grows as successfully as in Chile.
The wine festivals in Chile have a long tradition and are celebrated every year with much pride. Some upcoming events in the area around Santiago include:
Fiesta de vinos y quesos (Wine and Cheese Party), Malloco: April 1-3, 2011
Vendimia del Valle del Maipo (Vineyards of the Maipo Valley), Isla del Maipo: April 9-10, 2011
Vendimia del Valle del Maipo(Vineyards of the Maipo Valley), Buin: April 15-17, 2011
These festivals offer a good opportunity not only to taste the wine and the local cuisine, but also to get to know the Chilean people in special celebrations and experience firsthand their culture and traditions. |
