Greta about her Au Pair stay in Chile

  Au Pair 2018

Hello dear reader,

Last year I decided to go to Chile as an Au Pair, because I wanted to travel abroad and get to know another culture. To realize my dream, I relied on support from Chile Inside.
The whole application process, the selection of the family, the visa and much more became a lot easier, because Chile Inside was always friendly and helpful and advised me perfectly. All hurdles, questions and concerns, and lots of more stuff, has been taken care of by Chile Inside.

My stay abroad was full of beautiful moments and memories, from party nights in Santiago, short trips, movie nights, and the lovely time, that I spent and enjoyed with the children of my host family, with my host parents and with other internatinal Au Pairs. Unfortunately, it was only 5 months in total. I say unfortunately, because I really liked my host family, my host parents, as well as the children and I really got along with them very well. They are no longer a host family to me, but my family in Chile.

My Au Pair program in Chile has shown me more than once that child care can be very exhausting, energy as well as nerve-racking, but luckily children can turn 5 minutes later into little angels again. I also learnt that my au pair stay abroad was totally different as expected, what was great since I could learn a lot about myself and I became more independent.

Furthermore, I had the impression that one can have luck, as well as bad luck with the host family and thus you should always keep in mind, that you are no longer in Germany (or your home country), but in another country, on another continent, with a different language, a different culture, different customs, different rules, different opinions and different worldviews. So, you should also be open-minded, friendly and tolerant towards your work, family, local life and the people. Try not to compare Chile with your home country, because if you start to categorize your live abroad, you might not see the beauty, friendliness and warmth, that surrounds you.
At first sight, Santiago de Chile may not be the most beautiful city on earth, but it is worth to take a closer look. At second glance you can recognize its uniqueness and charm and for sure you will learn to love it. The same comes true for the Chileans. At the beginning a frightening Spanish and their introverted kind may scare you off, but they are incredibly adorable and if you're lucky you can find friends for a life-time.

Chile Inside supports you in this way with many possibilities to get to know the country and people and to connect with other Au Pairs. Chile Inside also has always an open ear and always responds as fast as possible to any question you might have.
In conclusion, I can only recommend to anyone to plan your Au Pair program with Chile Inside, because despite smaller or larger obstacles and difficulties, you gain unforgettable experiences that you do not want to give back for anything in the world. At least, this was my case!
